CMHL proudly continues to coordinate the only statewide program of training for allied health graduates and practitioners transitioning to the Victorian public mental health clinical workforce.

AH ELTS is open to allied health clinicians of all disciplines who are in their first two years of employment in a clinical mental health role. Allied health educators who are employed to support entry-level clinicians are also encouraged to attend.

CMHL has coordinated AH ELTS since 2020, and since then there has been a significant increase in demand, with registrations for 2023 & 2024 events averaging 140+ participants. The large number of participants in combination with an online mode of delivery has required us to make adaptations to how this program is designed and delivered.

Facilitated training sessions

In 2024, AH ELTS is offering 7 half days of facilitated online learning featuring expert trainers from across Victoria’s mental health system delivering training on topics selected based on identified priority learning areas including;

  • Introduction to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • Working Together with Families, Carers and Supporters
  • Medications in Mental Health
  • Culturally Responsive Practice for Mental Health Professionals
  • Integrated Care for Mental Health and Substance Use or Addiction
  • Family violence, mental health and the safe inclusion of family and carers
  • Working with Lived and Living Experience Workforces

Clinicians can register for as few or as many events as they choose. Registrations can be made via this link https://cmhl.org.au/2024-statewide-allied-health-entry-level-training-series

05/03/2024 Session 1 - Introduction to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
The first session of the 2024 CMHL AH ELTS was presented online today. It was great to provide an opportunity for 146 participants from 16 services across the state, representing 10 different allied health disciplines, to come together to learn about the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.  The session was facilitated by CMHL Acting Director Kylie Boucher, with a guest presentation from Ellisa Scott from IMHA. This session aimed to provide an overview of the purpose, objectives and principles of the Act, and how to give these proper consideration when applying relevant sections of the Act in practice. We are looking forward to the second session of the CMHL AH ELTS scheduled on Tuesday 9th April. This session will be on 'Working Together with Families, Carers and Supporters' and will be facilitated by Tandem.
