CISS

CMHL is continuing the Child Information Sharing Scheme project in 2023, by promoting child wellbeing in mental health services, building strong relationships across sectors, and celebrating the great work happening at mental health services.

Our plans for 2023-2024 include:

  • Delivering information sessions to services that were unable to participate in Year 1 due to competing priorities and staff shortages in 2022

In 2022 we delivered over 60 information sessions to more than 650 mental health workers. Most of these sessions were tailored to services with local policies and contexts. We received positive feedback on this format, so we are continuing this in 2023. If your service is interested in hosting information sessions, please get in contact with us!

  • Building relationships with other ISEs and delivering consistent messaging to the sector via the CISS in Practice Series

We will be connecting with other sectors, such as schools, child protection, and AOD services to deliver a CISS in Practice Series. Delivered online via the CMHL website, we are hoping to facilitate panel discussions, Q&As, and best practice examples to help us work more efficiently and produce better outcomes. If you are interested in participating these webinars let us know!

  • Promoting best practice and mental health service accomplishments with a CISS Showcase

Services are already doing great work in the child wellbeing space. The expertise among Specialist Family Violence Advisors, FaPMI coordinators, team leaders, and clinicians was evident in 2022. For the 2023-2024 project, we want to host a CISS showcase to share this work across mental health services and celebrate the great outcomes we are achieving.

CISS in 2022

In 2022 we were successful in raising Victoria’s mental health sector’s awareness of and confidence in using the Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) to promote child wellbeing and safety, and where family violence risk to a child is present, the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS), having regard to the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM).  We delivered scoping, coordination, resource development, and consistent messaging for the sector. More information on the 2022 project can be found here:

Mental Health Resources:

What is the Child Information Sharing Scheme?

The Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) enables information sharing between prescribed organisations to promote a child’s wellbeing. For a list of these organisations, visit HERE. Many organisations already work together to do this. The Scheme has expanded legal permissions for professionals to share and request information from other professionals. This ensures that professionals working with children can gain a complete view of the children they work with, making it easier to identify wellbeing or safety needs earlier, and to act on them sooner.

Decision tree: Can I share informed under the Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS)?

Information Sharing and MARAM Online Learning System.

The Department of Health have tailored training for Department of Health workforces and funded organisations including community health services, bush nursing centres, Early Parenting Centres, Ambulance Victoria, Maternal and Child Health services and other health services.

This training is suitable for practitioners who may come in contact with family violence victim survivors in a one-off situation or in a series of events, as part of their normal work. The course is designed to provide practitioners with a shared understanding of family violence and help practitioners confidently identify and respond to family violence risks and collaborate with specialist services.

The course has three modules. Each module runs for approximately 30 minutes.

To learn more about CISS and the other two reforms, the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS) and the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM) please visit HERE and speak with your Specialist Family Violence Advisor or FaPMI Coordinator.
