Derek McMahon

I’m Derek, and I am one of two Psychiatric Enrolled Nurse Educators at Eastern Health. I have worked as an Enrolled Nurse since late last century, and have survived three Mental Health Acts and multiple managerial styles. I have worked in a range of settings from prehistoric Institutionalised Asylums, through Inpatient units, rehabilitation streams, recovery and early intervention centers, community outreach, and prior to my appointment as an Educator some 12 months ago, had spent the past decade with the Mobile Support Team.  So I come with a not inconsiderable experience of … well, experience.

My current role was designed to primarily support the EHs Enrolled Nurse Grad program, but this has expanded to include supporting all MHENs, whether it be with clinical supervision, Advancement to EN3, debriefing, or career development.
