Description

The use of telehealth instead of and in conjunction with face-to-face consultations has rapidly expanded, supporting Australians in health and aid in maintaining social distancing and other safety measures during and post the Covid-19 pandemic. Telehealth is a valid service model and despite rapid implementation has been met with positive results.

In December 2021 the Mental Health and Wellbeing Workforce Capability Framework was released identifying a need for working effectively with digital technologies, including the skill of telephone, text and videoconferencing to deliver treatment, care and support. Turning Point has been identified to best deliver a skills-focused course, based on the hybrid (self-paced and facilitated) training model used for staff development for staff providing telephone counselling, remote program delivery and support.

• The course will have blended delivery, with 20 – 30 hours of self-directed online learning, and 2 days of supervised practice.

• The online learning component will include modules on: What works in Telehealth (research), Benefits and challenges of Telehealth, Preparing to deliver Telehealth (clinicians and clients), Troubleshooting technology, Virtual client engagement, Legal and ethical issues in Telehealth, Managing crises in Telehealth, and Working with vulnerable populations using Telehealth.

• The supervised practice component of the course will be delivered via face-to-face delivery and include role plays, simulations, case study discussion with each participant completing a final demonstration of their knowledge and skills in a simulated Telehealth environment.
