Description

No Bullshit Therapy (NBT) strives toward honesty in working relationships. It is ideal for clients who:
Do not like therapy or the idea of therapy (even if they have never had it)
Have had traumatic experiences but do not trust warm fuzzy 'do-gooders' or 'psychologisers' to help them
Have had previous unsatisfactory treatment, counselling or therapy
Are difficult to engage in the process of therapy and who are suspicious of services
Do not see themselves as a client, are mandated or forced to seek help
This workshop equips you with an understanding of the philosophy and principles that guide NBT and presents ideas about how to have difficult conversations and develop authentic relationships with clients, even those who are suspicious of therapy and therapists. You are invited to reflect on and challenge your own therapeutic practices, especially around honesty and directness or warmth and care, and to experience and practice NBT skills in a supportive environment.
NB: The term therapy is used as a short-hand description of many helping roles.

This event will cover:

  • Describe the philosophy and principles that guide NBT
  • Understand the different clinical approaches required to engage clients who attend services with bad faith
  • Identify and apply strategies for developing authentic relationships with a wider range of clients
  • Use NBT tools to help clients have difficult conversations with others
  • Apply a range of skills consistent with NBT to their own work context and clientele
