Description

This 2–day workshop will provide participants with an overview of DBT theory and principles as well as key DBT skills from each module (Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance). It will include a background on dialectics, including the central dialectic of behaviour change and acceptance principles. This workshop is suitable for mental health clinicians new to DBT as well as those with prior experience who are looking to refresh skills. The training is interactive, involving didactic learning augmented with role play, discussion and exercises.

On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

1. Understand BPD from a DBT perspective including prevalence, causes and evidence for DBT
2. Understand DBT theory and principles, including behavioural theory, validation and dialectics
3. Apply the key DBT skills from each module (Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance)
4. Apply the key tools from DBT including diary cards and chain analyses
