Description

With the current changes in approaches to working with families who are experiencing or have experienced family violence, safety for all family members remains a priority, as does preserving and repairing relationships. When families have chosen to continue their relationship, the work requires the worker to focus on both safety and relationships.

This half day workshop will identify the issues related to working in the face of ongoing violence, and explore how to prioritise safety and relationships in the therapeutic environment in the interest of supporting families who wish to maintain their family relationships.

This workshop assumes a basic understanding of the indicators of family violence and safety planning.

This event will cover:

  • Identify key dilemmas and issues associated with working where violence is a current issue for the family
  • Identify ways to prioritise safety in family work
  • Identify ways that family violence impacts on family relationships
  • Articulate a model for moving between family work and safety
