Description

In 2013, The Bouverie Centre published its Guidelines for Trauma-Informed Family Sensitive Practice in Adult Health Services. The guidelines highlight the large number of people entering the human services sector having experienced trauma that is not recognised by service providers, and the impact of trauma on families, including the potentially destructive impact on children and adolescents of parental mental health problems, sexual assault, family violence and substance misuse.

This workshop explores the impact of trauma on individuals, families and communities. The workshop draws on a systemic trauma-informed perspective to equip participants with strategies for working with individual clients and families, and potentially playing a key role in identifying and meeting the needs of vulnerable children.

This event will cover:

  • Identify ways in which trauma impacts on individuals, families and communities
  • Recognise the potential impacts of parental mental health problems, sexual assault, family violence and AOD misuse on children
  • Describe key aspects of a trauma-informed family sensitive approach & relate these to working with individual clients & families
  • Apply a range of practical strategies to their work with individuals and families affected by trauma
