Description

Body Image (BI) concerns and associated distress are well-established features of eating disorders. Despite this, consumers report current treatment often does not directly address these concerns, and thus exacerbates their feelings of being misunderstood. In addition, it can often be difficult for clinicians to know how and when to discuss body image concerns in treatment. Helping adults and their supports to feel validated, and tolerate body image distress in the earlier stages of treatment is an important factor in eating disorders treatment and recovery.

The training will involve didactic, interactive and experiential practise opportunities. Introductory knowledge of understanding and assessing eating disorders is assumed.

This event will cover:

  • Increased ability to understand and formulate body image concerns as part of the overall clinical presentation for adults living
  • Increased understanding of the impacts of diet culture and weight based stigma for people living with an eating disorder and the
  • Increased capacity to address body image concerns with adults in eating disorders treatment

Health Professionals working with adults experiencing an eating disorder.
