Description

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL - PLEASE EMAIL TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST FOR A POSSIBLE LATER TRAINING DATE (2019).
Autism spectrum disorder is now commonly diagnosed in childhood, but this was not the case for the generation who are
now adults. Changes in diagnostic practices and a growing awareness about how Autism presents in adulthood brings new
opportunities to provide a diagnosis to those who were missed. Therefore, there is an increasing need for psychiatrists and
other mental health clinicians to be able to recognise autism in the context of comorbid psychiatric disorders such as
psychosis, personality disorder, depression and anxiety.

This event will cover:

  • Recognising ASD in psychiatric clients presenting with other mental health disorders
  • Identifying the red flags for autism in crisis presentations
  • Screening tools
  • Working with adult clients with a known diagnosis of ASD
  • Strategies for engagement
  • Modifying treatment approaches
