In simple health terms, prevention relates to the targeting of specific risk and/or known causes of a disease. Health promotion aims to build up the health capability of people so that they do not get sick in the first place. This topic explores two different health promotion and prevention frameworks: the model largely adopted here in Australia, and the Ottawa Charter of Health Promotion. The topic then discusses the role mental health workers plat in the promotion of mental health and well-being for individuals, families and populations.
