Description
This on-line and one-day interactive and practical professional development training assists clinicians to understand the possibility that their clients who experience mental health and substance use/addiction may have experiences of childhood and/or other past or current trauma(s), which could be affecting their health, wellbeing, daily interactions and functioning.This is a blended training package that includes three on-line modules and a live face-to-screen (F2S) session. It is interactive and practical professional development training designed to assist clinicians understanding of clients who experience mental health and substance use/addiction issues and the impact of experiences of childhood and/or other past or current trauma(s) on their health, wellbeing, daily interactions and functioning.
This training is introductory and appropriate to a wide range of work roles. It covers basic clinical treatment options and puts trauma in a context that provides clinicians with a trauma-informed focus to better understand challenging emotions and human behaviour that clients who have mental health and substance use/addiction may present with.
This training uses current research to provide a basic understanding of trauma and the core principles of trauma-informed practice - a recovery, strengths-based approach vital for every person working in the helping professions, whether you work in government, non-government, public or private sectors.
Participants are expected to complete three online modules prior to the live session. Online modules will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete
This event will cover:
- Develop understanding of the types, prevalence, neurobiology and impacts of trauma
- Use trauma-informed approaches to reframe challenging emotions and behaviours as adaptive responses to trauma
- Practical applications of trauma-informed approaches to your work/care and to assist with developing trauma-informed recovery
- Specialist speakers from lived/living experience backgrounds, Addiction Medicine & family services.
