Description

This training is relevant for workers / clinicians who are engaged with parents or families where there is parental mental illness. The training will focus on working with families with complex issues, with specific consideration of the children within these families. Whilst a key focus will be families experiencing parental mental illness, other complexities including parental substance use and family violence will also be explored. To provide participants with a range of resources relevant to working with families experiencing parental mental illness.

This event will cover:

  • 1. To raise awareness and understanding of the key issues impacting children in a family where a parent has a mental illness
  • 2. To promote an increased focus on the needs of children and families
  • 3. To facilitate and encourage child focussed work practices, with an aim to enhance the resilience of children and minimise ris
  • 4. To explore practical strategies and tools to facilitate discussions with families
  • 5. To provide an opportunity for clinicians / workers to discuss barriers and challenges in doing this work, and to consider how
  • 6. To review referral pathways / options for families and children
