Description

Supported decision making is an important part of good mental health nursing practice to uphold human rights—but it’s often misunderstood.

This interactive course will support learners to:
· Understand the key principles of supported decision making and how it differs to other types of decision making
· Apply supported decision making principles in daily practice
· Use practical resources to assist with supported decision making

The course will consider issues for practice in the real world.

CPN courses are co-produced between mental health nurses and people with lived experience as consumers of mental health services.

This event will cover:

  • Underpinning principles and context for supported decision making, including: the Mental Health Act, human rights, models of dis
  • Supported decision making issues for practice
  • Practical tools and resources for supported decision making

Eligibility criteria

This course is targeted to mental health nurses working within the Victorian public mental health services, however people from other disciplines are welcome if places allow.
