Description
The ‘Peering into the Future’ forum will highlight the impact and importance of consumer and carer lived experience in improving service delivery to people with Mental Health (MH) and Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) issues.This forum, aimed at MH and AOD workers, will honour and explore the essential work of consumers and carers. Advocates, consultants and peer workers among others – all with lived experience themselves - and will represent the many different facets of consumer and carer service improvement.
There will also be information stalls and resources, with networking opportunities throughout the day.
Workshops
1. In-Tandem Model
The Eastern Dual Diagnosis Consumer and Carer Advisory Council (DDCCAC) will present a workshop of the key roles we have in delivering a group-discussion program using our lived experience, and describe the great collaboration with treatment services through our shared decision making process we call the ‘in-tandem model’
2. Peerology: Peer work through the lens of alcohol and other drugs
Presented by Victorian AOD Peer Workforce Community of Practice, led by: Craig Payne, AOD Peer Worker Turning Point; Vanessa Hollo, AOD Peer Worker MSRS Access Health & Community; Steve Adams, AOD Peer Worker EACH
3. Increasing the impact of consumer voices
This workshop discusses some of the different ways that APSU works to increase the impact and visibility of consumer voices and lived experience. Three different consumers will present on their experience of being a part of these initiatives, how this has impacted their lives and what impact they think consumer voices can have in the broader community.
