Description
45% of consumers of adult mental health services are parents (Mayberry et al 2018). Up to 70% of children in child and youth mental health services have a parent with a mental health concern (Naughton, M. 2018). Working with families where a parent has a mental illness aids in recovery of the whole family. This workshop is designed collaboratively with FaPMI and Carer Consultants to enhance participant’s knowledge, resources and strategies to work with families where a parent has a mental illness. This interactive workshop will include an introduction and rationale behind why we need to work with the whole family and will offer an opportunity to discuss family focused practice with lived experience practitioners.
Focusing on three key aspects to support participants to improve their practice when working with families, parents and children, and gain a great understanding of how this supports recovery:
1. The OCP Guideline: Working Together with Families and Carers
2. The FaPMI practice standards
3. FaPMI file audit process
At the end of this training participants will:
Have a clearer understanding of family inclusive practice and how to incorporate this into clinical practice
