Description

By consumer workers, for consumer workers.

All sessions are designed to be interactive and focussed on the needs of the participants. We believe that Consumer Workers offer a deep knowledge in learning environments and seek to encourage and fortify this diverse expertise. Our approach understands that what we’re learning and how we use it are always connected. We use critical thinking, reflection and discussion to engage with contested ideas and/or conflicting world views, and emphasise Consumer Perspective through its ethical, social justice, and human rights principles.

Note: This training follows on from Consumer Consultant Training held throughout 2021 – 2022, and Consumer Consultant forum held in 2020, during which collective professional development needs were explored and examined. Further expertise was sought from the workforce and the Statewide Consumer Consultant Council (SCCC) on priority areas for development.

Through this interactive training, you will have opportunities to share experiences, ideas, skills and strategies related to Consumer Consultant (CC) work.

What does it mean to be a Consumer Consultant?

During this session we'll be looking at:
• Connecting with why we got into this work to begin with
• A brief history of CC roles and underpinning values/philosophy
• Different tasks undertaken in the CC role
• Understanding our work in terms of personal, service user and organisational priorities
• Protecting what we think is important in the CC role

How to make an impact/be influential

• What are some of the barriers to being influential in our work?
• Areas where having an impact/being influential matter most to you
• What would be a marker that you were having an impact?
• What strategies do you draw on to stay invigorated and connected
