This one day workshop will focus on understanding behaviours of concern, building skills and developing strategies to effectively respond to behaviours of concern in mental health context.

This workshop is suitable for frontline workers and other staff who have direct contact with people who have mental health concerns in a range of contexts
This workshop will helpstudents to:
- Understand the range of conditions which may cause behaviours of concern.
- Identify early warning signs and how to de-escalate behaviours of concern
- Identify how your own attitudes, behaviours and communication styles can contribute to behaviours of concern.
- Understand the importance of self-care and debriefing when working with people displaying behaviours of concern.
- Provide workers with the opportunity to engage in skills practice and to learn from other practitioners.

This event will cover:

  • Define and compare behaviours of concern and ongoing behaviour difficulties
  • Understand the potential conditions which may cause behaviours of concern
  • Identify early warning signs of behaviours of concern and its escalation
  • Identify how workers personal behaviours, attitudes and communication styles contribute to the expressions of behaviours of conc
  • Discuss and develop approaches to diffuse behaviours of concern and what to do if the strategies don’t work
  • Understand the importance of debriefing and self-care after dealing with a behaviour of concern
