Self-directed online training

Event description

People with mental illness are exposed to a wide range of human rights violations. These occur within institutional contexts and in the community where stigma and misconceptions about mental disorders can limit people exercising their civil liberties, participating fully in education and employment, and accessing the care and support they need.

To work effectively with clients and their families/carers in both hospital and community settings, mental health clinicians require a sound understanding of:
- human rights
- relevant policy and legislation
- the implications for practice.

This topic explores human rights in relation to mental health practice and will help you contextualise contemporary policy and legal developments that will be covered in later topics.
