Self-directed online training

Event description

When a person experiences mental illness, the care provided by family members, friends and other people often exceeds the usual expectations of a close family or personal relationship. Carers are uniquely placed to notice when the mental state of the person they are caring for changes, yet they frequently report that they are not listened to, or their views are not wanted. This topics introduces the concepts of carer participation and the lived experience of carers and families. Family carers may be parents, partners, children, siblings or the wider 'family'.
