This document is designed to orient readers to the specialist work done by the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture. It describes the integrated nature of our approach to working with and for survivors of torture and other traumatic events who come from refugee backgrounds.

Safewards is a model developed for inpatient mental health units, aiming to improve safety for both consumers and staff, with a focus on reducing conflict (anything that could be harmful for a patient, other patients, or staff) and containment (restrictive interventions).
