This topic explores the transition to old age and the changes to physical health that can either co-occur with, or masquerade as mental illness. The prevalence of mental disorders and dementias among older people is outlined, along with approaches to assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders. The topic also invites learners to consider ageism - challenging our beliefs and attitudes when we work with older people.Eligibility criteria
