Description

The Bouverie Centre's Guidelines for Trauma-Informed Family Sensitive Practice in Adult Health Services highlight the large number of people entering the human services sector having experienced relational trauma. It is vital to consider the impact of trauma on families, including the impact on children and adolescents, of parental mental health issues, sexual assault, family violence and substance misuse.

This workshop draws on a systemic trauma-informed perspective to equip participants to understand the impact of trauma on individual clients and their families, particularly vulnerable children.

Trauma informed worker self-care and supervision will also be briefly addressed.

This event will cover:

  • Identify ways in which trauma impacts on individuals, families and communities
  • Recognise the potential impacts of parental mental health problems, sexual assault, family violence and AOD misuse on children
  • Describe key aspects of a trauma-informed family sensitive approach and relate these to working with individual clients and fami
  • Utilise curious questions to explore the impact of trauma on individuals and families affected by trauma
  • Consider the importance of trauma informed worker self-care and supervision
