Description

Approx 3 hours of self paced learning, prior to a live online half day workshop. Working therapeutically with people seeking asylum, including those living in the community on bridging visas, in held detention and community detention, as they wait for their claim to be determined.

This event will cover:

  • Overview of legal and policy frameworks around seeking asylum
  • How pre-arrival traumatic histories and the asylum-seeking process interact
  • Good practice in work with people seeking asylum in relation to assessment, formulation, interventions and treatment, advocacy
  • The roles practitioners engage in when working with people seeking asylum
  • The impacts of this work, ways to sustain ourselves, and effective practice
