Audience
Support workers who deal with clients in distress on a regular basis.

Aims
At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Recognise when they are adversely affected by stories of trauma
Understand how to manage the impact of vicarious trauma and burnout
Develop a toolbox of strategies for self-care.


Content for this workshop will include:
Definitions of stress, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma
The role of empathy, compassion and boundaries in working with clients
Strategies for managing burnout / compassion fatigue
Understanding the autonomic nervous system
Models of reflective practice
