The MERTIL Clinical Skills Training Workshop is highly recommended for those who have completed MERTIL: My Early Relational Trauma Informed Learning, a 12-hr self-paced online training.

Facilitated by the developer of MERTIL, Professor Jennifer McIntosh, this workshop uses clinical cases to show participants how to apply the principles taught in the MERTIL course.

Workshop content will include: effective trauma based conversations, using video and demonstration to illustrate key points, with supported practice of clinical skills. This workshop strongly augments and enhances the online material covered in MERTIL and includes in-depth analysis of video footage of 2 real-life trauma cases and review of 6 supplied cases.

Due to highly sensitive nature of hte clinical footage ("Health Information") a signed confidentiality agreement will be required from all participants prior to access to the workshop.

This event will cover:

  • in-depth discussions of real life clinical cases, including video footage,
  • opportunities for case discussion with international infant mental health expert and co-developer of MERTIL, Professor Jennifer
  • practice of clinical skills and case formulation of trauma presentations in small groups, followed by whole group discussions
  • promotion of meta-cognitive skills in both detection and in operating at arm's length from potentially traumatising clinical m
  • individual planning for next steps in implementing trauma focused practices, and guides to using MERTIL
