Description
LGBTIQA+ is an acronym encompassing a wide variety of experiences and identities including: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual plus other sexualities and gender identities that fall outside of heteronormative ideas. The recent release of Australia's largest ever study on the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ young people aged 14-21, Writing Themselves 4, provides the basis to explore LGBTIQA+ young peoples identities, experiences and the impacts of discrimination. and service barriers.The ZBGC has developed this training to help organisations and individual practitioners provide accessible and inclusive services for LGBTIQA+ young people and their families in Victoria.
Delivery Mode – 4 hour Virtual Training Session (5 hours total with break)
This course is delivered online through virtual classrooms where facilitators and participants can present course materials, engage and interact with one another, and work in groups together. Sessions are hosted via Zoom.
Participants will be provided with login details prior to the event.
This event will cover:
- An introduction to bodies, gender and sexuality
- Respectful communication and pronouns
- Experiences and impacts of discrimination
- Identifying systemic service barriers
- LGBTIQA+ inclusive practice initiatives

Eligibility criteria
This is a free event designed for members of the public clinical mental health workforce in Victoria, (staff employed at Area Mental Health Services, Forensicare or mental health staff from RCH). For example, a social worker working in mental health at Austin Health. Staff from MHCSSs, ACCHOs, AOD or other partner organisations may also sometimes attend. Please note, if you do register for this event and it is not clear you are part of the intended audience, your registration will be confirmed two weeks prior to the event start date, or earlier.
