Description

This four-day workshop provides a basic introduction to core concepts of family therapy theory and practice. It will assist participants to develop new ways of understanding difficulties impacting on families and a range of approaches to intervention.

This workshop is a combination of didactic and experiential delivery which seeks to integrate theoretical concepts with practice. It is useful for workers who just want to enhance their work with families, as well as those who would like a taste of what it might be like to participate in our award courses.

Who should attend: Case managers, counsellors, social workers, psychologists, nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, welfare and youth workers, and others in the helping professions.

This event will cover:

  • Describe the systemic basis of family therapy and the benefits of this framework for understanding family difficulties
  • Articulate some of the key developments in family therapy models over time
  • Identify key theoretical concepts underpinning family therapy and relate these to practical work with families
  • Identify and apply a range of key family therapy skills
  • Apply family sensitive practice principles within their own service setting

Eligibility criteria

No prior knowledge or experience of family work is required. Participants must attend all 4 days of their nominated introductory workshop.

This workshop is a requirement of entry for those undertaking the second level of the Master of Clinical Family Therapy Program who have not already completed either level one of the Program or its equivalent.
