Description

Gain an understanding of the current framework and evidence-based practices for working with people with a dual diagnosis.

Dual Diagnosis is a term for used to describe when a person is experiencing both mental health and substance use issues. Statistics show that dual diagnosis is no longer the exception when working in the Mental Health or Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD), rather it should be the expectation. This training provides Mental Health, AOD, and Community Workers with the basics of working with people facing these dual issues. This training is facilitated by two clinicians specialising in dual diagnosis and our dual diagnosis peer worker.

This event will cover:

  • Dual Diagnosis - definition, prevalence & impact
  • Policies and Legislative Frameworks
  • Psychoactive Substances and Effects on Mental Health
  • Mental Health- Barriers to Treatment & Stigma
  • Effectively identifying Dual Diagnosis - Screening & Assessment
  • Change and Interventions
