Description

A free online interactive ‘Train the Trainer’ program for NDIS service providers and other professionals assisting people who may be eligible to access, or are accessing, the NDIS under the psychosocial disability stream.

Graduates of this training will be able to run training sessions for their colleagues to deliver ‘Self-Advocacy for the NDIS’ consumer workshops, as well as provide one-on-one support to consumers to advocate for what they need.

As the training is aimed at equipping professionals with the skills necessary to run workshops on self-advocacy with their colleagues, attendees will be provided with the opportunity to work on their group facilitation skills by presenting to the group within the second workshop session. It is recommended that professionals with an interest in professional development and training enrol for this training, although the skills and knowledge acquired would also be useful for those running workshops with or providing direct support to consumers.

Each workshop is co-facilitated by a mental health lived experience professional who provides unique insights and first-hand experience of advocating at each stage of the NDIS process.

The training builds upon a pilot project ran by IMHA in 2019 which achieved increased capacity of trained facilitators to support NDIS participants and prospective participants to self-advocate, and increased consumer knowledge, self-determination and confidence to advocate for their needs.
