Description

This workshop invites participants to consider the impact of work in the helping professions on health and well-being, and to review strategies for sustaining ourselves in the longer term, personally, professionally, and organisationally. The workshop describes a range of approaches to assessing, preventing and managing the negative impacts of the work, and exploring the positive impacts including personal and professional growth. Practice theory is interwoven with experiential exercises, aimed at resourcing participants with tools to identify, respond to, and prevent compassion fatigue.

This event will cover:

  • Understand the phenomenon of compassion fatigue
  • Distinguish compassion fatigue from burnout, vicarious trauma, and other related concepts
  • Identify personal and professional strategies for preventing compassion fatigue
  • Identify a range of available options for management of compassion fatigue
  • Develop a professional self-care plan
  • Identify factors involved in sustaining ourselves over the longer term
