Half day workshop, Thursday 15th August, 9:00am - 12:30pm

This advanced workshop covers substance use and the brain, coupled with equipping participants with skills to get the most from neuropsychology.

The impact of substances on the brain and behaviour

How drugs and alcohol impact our brain. This will cover intoxication, withdrawal and craving, together with potential neurotoxicity of commonly used substances and possible long-term cognitive effects.

Tips for determining if a person’s cognitive impairments may be substance related will discussed, as well as different ways of managing the client’s presenting problems.

How to get the most from the neuropsychological assessment:

Learn how to introduce the possibility of neuropsychological assessment to your client, how to frame a referral question to get the most out of the assessment, and how to support the client to attend.

Feel more confident using the information from the neuropsychological report when working with your client, including how to explain the results to your client. Common case scenarios will be used with report examples. Participants are encouraged to email through de-identified case examples for use during the workshop. Role-plays and case examples will be used to support learning.
