Description

This years' mini-conference will explore whether we have got the balance right in the level of family inclusion in mental health care. Is the focus on family inclusion distracting us from the 'main game' of person centred care or worse still occurring at the expense of consumer rights in relation to confidentiality and autonomy? Practically, are we asking too much of mental health services to respond to the needs of both consumers and their family members? Given the current interest in Open Dialogue from consumers and family members and evidence for the value of family inclusion, do we need to go further in promoting family inclusion so that it can deliver improved outcomes for consumers and their families? Is achieving the balance about evidence or values and who decides anyway? These and other questions will be addressed through a range of invited speakers and a trialogue panel discussion involving consumers, family members and practitioners.
